Job Description

Full-Time  

Reports to: Associate Executive Director

Summary of Role

This role is responsible for executing the daily, weekly, and monthly accounting tasks, as well as overseeing the daily functions of the finance office.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain appropriate accounting systems to ensure the complete, accurate, and timely reporting of financial information
  • Assist in the development and implementation of policies and procedures and other internal controls to ensure proper allocation & expenditure of tithe dollars
  • Analyze financial data across the organization, and from multiple sources, and consolidate into report
  • Maintain professional working relationship with third parties: banks, outside agencies, CPA, etc.
  • Manage Associate Finance Director and cross-train job responsibilities for best practices
  • Assist in the completion of the annual audit
  • Forecast future giving and budget needs
  • Prepare and maintain budgets for all ministries including monitoring the status of individual accounts
  • Reconcile bank statements
  • Review invoices, check requests, offering reports, etc., for accuracy
  • Research new trends as related to church finance to help take Emmanuel to the next level
  • Work with leadership to continue to build a culture of generosity with staff and congregation
  • Other related tasks as assigned

Qualifications and Requirements

Education and/or Experience

  • Accounting and/or Finance degree
  • 5 years of experience in daily accounting functions and financial reporting

o   Specific experience in non-profit organizations preferred

Knowledge and Skills

  • Excellent interpersonal skills with experience in conflict resolution
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong organizational/administrative skills and ability to manage multiple tasks and projects
  • Ability to learn and use Emmanuel’s systems (Rock, Planning Center, etc.) and learn and adapt to new technology
  • Demonstrate ability to work independently and as part of a team in a flexible and cooperative manner, self-motivated
  • Demonstrate confidentiality and discretion when handling personal and ministry information
  • Demonstrate a servant heart with spiritual maturity and sensitivity

o   Financial support of the church with your tithe

o   Attend one weekend service each week and monthly staff meetings

o   Participate in community through small group

o   Prioritize a Sabbath (one 24-hour period of time off work each week)
